Storing Foods
The life giving oxygen we all breathe is vital for all life to exist. Unfortunately, oxygen also has
a degrading effect on food and promotes micro-organism growth that helps to ruin food when stored. Mold, reduced nutritional value, bad flavor, and waste are a result of stored unsealed
food in our refrigerators and pantries. All of us have tasted stale crackers, chips, cereals, seen moldy cheese, and more. Vacuum packaging with the VacnSeal system will keep your foods fresher longer, especially in areas with high humidity - we guarantee it!
Important notes about vacuum packaging food.
If your food is less than fresh, the VacnSeal will not re-freshen. It will however extend the life of the food longer than normal. It is impossible to determine how much longer with food already exposed to the air but common sense says that any improvement in the length of freshness is better than none. Mold, Yeast, and Bacteria are microorganisms caused by the combination of air and water that degrade the freshness and quality of food. These micro-organisms are responsible for many problems including disgusting fuzz on food, miserable smells or tastes, and slimy textures. By removing all the air possible within reason and the moisture it contains, these microorganisms stand a much poorer chance of surviving.
At this time we highly recommend the Reynolds® Vacuum Freezer Bags, but you should try several bags to see which one holds the seal longest as each manufacturer varies from time to time.
Storing Fruits
Most fruits do well with vacuum storage in the refridgerator.
Some fruits don’t quite last as long as others. If you are storing
boysenberries, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries, expect
them to last half as long as others in the refrigerator. Freezing them
however is the same for all fruits.
Storing Breads In Freezer
To prevent breads and other baked goods from being
crushed in the freezer, place them into a resealable bag
and freeze them for a couple of hours before vacuum sealing
them.
Storing Nuts
Now you can store your expensive nuts in convenient resealable
bags for daily consumption without the hassle of tearing open heat
sealed bags. Nuts are notorious for going bad and growing mold
and the VacnSeal will help keep them fresh.
Storing Coffee and Powdery Foods
Be very careful when vacuum sealing ground coffee and powdery
foods in resealable bags. They may become airborne and may
clog up the filter. Keep them in their original bags and seal their
bag within a re-closable bag for maximum freshness.
Storing Liquids
As mentioned earlier, trying to vacuum seal liquids with the
VacnSeal can be messy. The solution to the problem is to pre-freeze
the liquid foods in loaf pans.
Storing Dry Foods
Storing dry foods such as pasta, cookies, crackers, beans, rice, grains
and chips is a great application for the VacnSeal system.
Storing Meat and Fish
The VacnSeal is a natural product for storing your meats and fish.
Here is a helpful hint - storing meat in the refrigerator may cause
excess juices to leak from the meat so include a paper towel within
the bag to absorb excess juice. Wrap the meat in Saran® wrap first,
place it into a Reynolds® Vacuum Freezer Bag and then seal with VacnSeal
for maximum longterm freshness.
Storing Hard Cheese including Grated Cheese
The VacnSeal is a wonderful product for storing your expensive
cheeses. Resealable bags are designed for this type of food and
combined with the VacnSeal your cheese will stay as fresh as
possible and stay convenient. You will love it for your cheeses
alone!
Storing Vegetables
Storing vegetables is a breeze with the VacnSeal system. Before
storing your vegetables though, it is very important to rinse and
clean them of any unwanted microorganisms for the maximum
possible freshness. Our research has found that putting your
vegetables in a tub of water with just a little GSE (grapefruit seed
extract) keeps them healthy and fresh. GSE is a powerful natural
anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal product that can be found at your
local nutritional store. For more information about GSE, type
in Grapefruit Seed Extract in your internet search engine or visit
this website for more information. If you wish to freeze your
vegetables, you may want to slightly cook them to stop the natural
process of loss of flavor. Cook them in boiling water or microwave
until they are cooked yet crisp then immerse them in cold water.
Dry them and freeze them. You can store the vegetables in small
servings ready to cook.
